The Big Sleep

images-4As my own Albion moves quietly on, I sometimes have to ask myself was I really out of  the wine world for so long? When did wines get so expensive, and who is the greedy party?

And of course everyone is complaining how bad business is…well wake up and smell the coffee: drop your prices.

Coche-Dury 2001 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières at 855 euros? Well there is certainly some sucker out there willing to waste his wad, but back in the days that was a 350 euro bottle max…and even then you had to find a punter.

I sold 1996 Chambertin from Rousseau at 100 euros a bottle; even in the fifteen years that have past, today’s price of 900 euros…900% inflation seems just a tad excessive.

Armand Rousseau’s wines are fantastic, but would you really feel good about paying 100 euros a  glass? And the rest…

No Boagey, even if you have some Musigny your are not driving me home...
